Portobello Primary School Aspiration Day

During the session, pupils took part in a hands-on collage workshop, using creative techniques to represent and explore a wide range of artistic and creative professions. The activity encouraged imagination while helping pupils understand the diversity of roles within the creative industries.
Josie and the Shape Gateshead team also shared insights into their personal career journeys, offering valuable perspectives on how their paths developed and the different routes into creative work. Their stories helped to make creative careers feel more accessible and achievable for the young audience.
"Creativity and inspiration are important for children because they help them explore their imagination, express their ideas, and build confidence in their abilities. When children are encouraged to think creatively, they learn how to solve problems, try new things, and develop their own unique way of thinking. Inspiration also motivates them to be curious and engaged with the world around them, which supports their emotional, social, and intellectual growth.
Gateshead Art teams attendance at our Raising Aspirations Day was truly remarkable with all children included in an inspiring workshop. Children were inspired to try a new style of art and work collaboratively to develop their ideas. Many of these children traditionally come from lower socio-economic backgrounds and find some learning can be challenging. Josie, Karolynne and Ali showed these children anything is possible and to aim high!

Thank you all. We look forward to working with you again soon."
Special thanks to Josie for developing such a fantastic creative session and to Portobello Primary School staff who organised their timetable to accommodate and support the session.
